Hungarian Hoorah!

Another stunning sale generated by BATEMANS - Stamford's Leading Auctioneers, on 11th September ...

A visually arresting and physically imposing piece of art, this large scale oil and mixed media picture found International appeal. Created by the Hungarian artist Laszlo Bornemisza (1916-1995), and titled 'Citta del Nord', it was unsigned but came with a gallery receipt dated 1970 from the Galleria d'Arte "Arno", and an exhibition booklet which included an image of the painting. It measured 119 by 169cm, and was presented in a white painted frame, 128 by 178cm overall.

It sold for a spectacular £8,400 (incl. 20% B.P.) against estimates of £400 - £600!

The buyer, a Hungarian collector, secured it after an exciting 3 minutes of bidding on the telephone against a second telephone line to Hungary and three online bidding platforms.
