A group of nine Chinese wooden carvings, early to mid 20th century, depicting figures in various occupations and situations, unusually two appear to be subjected to torture or corporal correction with one man in a full length cage held by his neck, the other sat on the floor with a board around his neck, further carvings depict a passenger cart, sedan chair, a man ploughing with a cow, a porter carrying goods, and a man writing at a table, each approximately 10cm high. (9)
