A Chinese or Japanese bronze cloisonne enamel jardiniere, likely 19th century, decorated with a wide band of diagonal fan shaped motifs in white, green, red, and blue, scattered with blue flowers, above seven panels with floral designs, square 'signature' panel to the side with four characters against a turquoise ground, believed to translate as 'Shimaoka Kestuzan', later inscribed by hand to base 'W.O. 215 .... A/VS/4', 42 by 36cm high, 8.44kg.
Provenance: owned by the current Vendors for approximately 70 years, and purported to have been purchased from the auction of house contents in 1948 from North Luffenham Hall, Rutland, erstwhile home of Elsie, Guy and Richard Fenwick.
