A shallow dish of bronze. It has Islamic writing around the outside and round an intricate pattern in the centre of the dish. It still covered in verdigree from being buried for about 1800 years and needs professional restoration. 16cm. Diam. Notes: This and the following eight lots were bought by us in north Afganistan in 1975 or '76. The small trader in Mazar-i-Sharif or Balkh assured us they were genuine Gandhara from 2nd to 8th century AD, they were found close by. We were reassured by the fact that some other items we bought from him, newer beads, (only about 150 years old) prooved to be genuine.
