A pair of French 19th century Charenton porcelain portrait figurines, modelled after paintings by Thomas Gainsborough, portraying the Duchess of Devonshire and the 'Blue Boy' (Jonathan Buttal), each painted in predominantly blue tones, the naturalistic bases bearing armorial crests and the mottos 'Cavendo Tutus' (Safe by being cautious) and 'Nobilitatas virtus non stemma character' (Virtue, not pedigree, is the mark of nobility), each with underglaze blue factory mark to the base, and one with retailers mark for 'W. P. & G. Phillips of Bond St, London', 29.3cm and 27.3cm high respectively. (2)
