A rare Chinese stoneware jar, Sung / Song Dynasty (960-1279), of flattened ovoid form with flared rim, 'Ko' type, pale grey lavender glaze with orange peel crazing, paper label to base, 9.5 by 6.5cm high, with a letter dated 21st September 1935 from G. W. Dickinson of Dickinson and Son, Oriental Arts and Crafts, Winchester House, Singapore, describing this jar as being given as a souvenir gift to Brigadier A. K. Hay and detailing that it was found with several other pieces in a tomb at a remote part of the Celebes. Provenance: The Estate of Mr Joseph B. Hay, son of Major-General Arthur K. Hay DSO OBE - 100 years of a military family.
