An early to mid 17th century silver slip top spoon, with pear shaped bowl, single partial hallmark still visible, finial engraved 'T.W', 0.57toz, bowl 3.9 by 5.1cm, 12.4cm long.

Provenance: this spoon was given to the Vendor's father circa 1948-50, when he was a young man, soon after WWII where he flew as a Lancaster bomber pilot, including a mission to bomb Hitler's 'Eagles Nest' near Berchtesgaden, by an almost anonymous local elderly lady as her way of thanking a 'local lad' for his bravery in the recent World War. After trying to return it feeling that he was not deserving of such a gift the lady insisted that the spoon was now his.
