An unusual late 19th or early 20th century brass and white metal inkwell, formed as a silvered elephant with pierced howdah on its back, space for the inkwell within, shaped brass stand beneath cast with lion masks encircled by phoenixes, foliate cast rim and applied elephant head legs to either end, possibly marked WMF, diamond lozenge beside, also marked O to diamond lozenge on back of elephant's right hind foot, 26.5 by 20cm, a/f.
