A fine and rare late 18th century Swedish Gustavian campaign desk by Georg Haupt, master in Stockholm 1770-1784, the mahogany chest form body with line inlaid detail and twin gilt brass hinged carry handles to the sides, an oval escutcheon to the front fold down section, opening to reveal a fitted interior with six drawers flanking a central cupboard, inset with an oval painted oil on canvas portrait of a gentleman, framed by an inlaid and stained laurel wreath tied with ribbons against a satinwood veneered background, the fall front with integral lift slope and fold out section with three carved recesses, all raised on two pairs of folding square section legs and a fold out front apron, with brass stays and sprung retaining lock, signed into the inlay of the lower corners of the central portrait panel 'G. Haupt fecit a Stockholm', 105 by 49 by 47.5cm high, 105cm high with legs extended.

No keys, in fair to good condition with various losses to external inlays and bumped corners, the painted portrait unfortunately having been damaged as can be clearly seen; some of the locks and smaller escutcheons, are missing, the folding legs work well but are quite rickety and have sustained some damage and losses, there are holes in the ends of the legs where cast feet might have once been;
