Graham Arnold (British, 1932-2019): 'The Quiet Gathering', a trompe l'oeil, depicting a landscape viewed through a window, with chess board below, vases of berries and oak apples to one side, the other with two books, one by Ruskin, a Christingle orange resting on them, an Edwardian black and white photographic portrait in front, and with ribbons in a vase above, inscribed to the back in pencil 'The Quiet Gathering, Oil on Board, 1984', with gallery label for The Piccadilly Gallery, with purchase date of May 1986, 45 by 45cm framed and glazed 70.5 by 70.5cm.
Notes: Arnold was a member of "The Ruralists", a movement of British artists including Peter Blake and Graham Ovenden which gained prominence in the 1970s.
